I am not a legal expert, but I believe you are currently protected by Title IX, and your teacher is violating your civil rights. Trump and his awful allies haven’t changed the existing laws, yet.
I mean, your teacher sounds like an asshole who is violating your human rights, but I believe they are also legally violating your Title IX rights. I’m sure that if I’m wrong, someone who is smarter than me will correct me.
So if I’m right, you should be able to contact your local ACLU and ask them to help you fight for your rights.
Also, you don’t have to apologize at ALL for feeling like I’m a person who can listen to you when you are struggling and feeling the things you’re feeling. That honestly makes me feel like I’m one step closer to being the person I always needed when I was younger.
I’m so sorry you are dealing with this shit. I’m so sorry your classmates are bigots. You don’t deserve to be treated badly by anyone, especially when you’re in a place that’s supposed to be safe.
I want you to know that I see you, I hear you, and I stand with you.
*EDITED TO ADD* I presumed you are American, so I’m speaking about American laws. If you’re not from the United Dumpster Fire Of America, I apologize for making a presumption that I shouldn’t have made in either case.
Hey just to add: I’m a teacher and can confirm the Title IX bit. If I were to continue calling a trans individual by their dead name, there would be an intervention by the student support team within the school. If the school doesn’t have those kinds of progressive systems, I also encourage you to speak to the admin concerning your legal rights. If nothing else, the school will want to avoid legal action and will hopefully intervene to correct the teacher … Hopefully you’d even have the option to switch teachers. I’m so sorry you have to deal with that, but please know that there are many, many people who support you and respect you for exactly who you are.
Signal boost.
I hate to be the teacher who mentions this out loud (I really actually don’t), but if the school refuses to respect your Title IX rights, go to the district PR department. They will bend over backwards to prevent any of their schools being put on blast in the media.
