Reminder: Do not buy from Amazon or even open the website on 10 July 2018, in solidarity with the transnational strike.

Amazon workers in Spain have called for a transnational strike because Amazon has been avoiding accountability for its labour rights violations by merely shifting the work (and the human rights abuses Amazon inflicts on their workers) to non-striking countries, each time a strike occurs. If there is widespread striking transnationally, Amazon will have no choice but to recognize the strikers’ demands in order to keep their facilities functioning.

Our job as allies is to support the strike by avoiding using the Amazon website or purchasing anything from Amazon for as long as the strike continues. A mass boycott of the site, coinciding with the strike, will strengthen the workers’ bargaining position and could be crucial to Amazon workers gaining back basic rights in a variety of countries.

Please remember this includes subsidiaries like Twitch and Audible.

This is tomorrow!

Please do not shop on Amazon tomorrow.

Please do not stream Amazon music or video tomorrow

Please do not order from sites using Amazon Payments tomorrow.

For one day, please, avoid it.

I have to ask if this is checked with the organizers of the strike. Because I have also seen a post going around, that quote them on the fact, that this strike was specifically timed with this date, because this will be when Amazon is going to gain most purchases. So in result, when there’s nobody working for amazon on that day the massive amount of purchases coming in will hurt Amazon even harder.

Basically, if everybody boycotts Amazon on the day of the strike, Amazon is hardly loosing any money, since paying the few workers, that might not strike to take care of the few purchases coming in will not be a big deal. But having to pay them overtime to handle way too many purchases AND potentially loosing money by cancelled, or refunded purchases that could not be processed fast enough for lack of working people to process it, THAT will hurt badly.

I will not say either boycott, or not boycott Amazon on that day, but please read up on the official statements the strike’s organizers have issued, before you decide for either of these options. The least they want is for their strike to be obsolete, because people wanting to be allies misunderstood the main focus of the strike.
