I Just Noticed…

Have any of you ever wondered why the creators decided to give Shiro a scar across his nose? I mean, of all places, why there?

I did. Then I compared this picture of Shiro:

To a picture taken from the original Beast King GoLion anime during Shirogane’s death:

… Well, you can get inspiration from just about anywhere, I suppose!

I… I don’t know what to say about this.

You want to know something better? Look where the blood is coming from.

He has a wound up at hairline height, and seemingly another wound on the bridge of his nose.

Now, for GoLion’s Shirogane, those wounds killed him and he never healed.

But VLD Shiro has a white strip in his hair right at the hairline level (white hair can be caused by scarring) and another scar across the bridge of his nose. We’ve never seen a flashback of him with one and without the other, which suggests they could have been inflicted at the same time- and Shiro’s hair would only start to come in white afterwards, which is to say this would make it very likely there was a point in VLD Shiro’s past where he looked like that image of GoLion’s Shirogane- just Shiro survived.

VLD also takes joint inspiration from GoLion and DotU, and in DotU, Sven survives that scene and recovers to make a future appearance (while in GoLion he’s at one point replaced by his brother) so I think there’s something very thematically interesting that VLD appears to have given Shiro, as a fixture of his character design, scars from the wounds that killed his GoLion counterpart, but that Shiro survived.
