Any LGBTQ space that doesn’t allow LGBTQ aces to discuss the specific discrimination they’ve faced for being asexual is not a safe space
and, to me, that’s the biggest problem in LGBT spaces; I don’t mind not having ace-exclusive things, but I mind not feeling safe exposing my aro or ace identity because people tell me it doesn’t matter even though they’ve shaped my life more than my few instances of attraction did.
Exactly! I need to be able to talk about all aspects of who I am, and I should be able to talk about my sexuality in LGBT spaces. For me, being ace and being queer are so intertwined that I couldn’t separate them if I wanted to.
Plus, it’s not like I can talk to straight people about what’s happened to me for being ace, especially since it was generally straight people who caused it.
