I accidentally (Yes, accidentally. Please be careful and keep track of your cold medicines when you’re sick.) took too much when I had, like, bronchitis and let me tell you there was nothing fun about that at all. At all. It felt like my skin was violently trying to shed and I couldn’t stop twitching. Also I saw big, dark shadow people coming out of every door or closet. Don’t do it.
please for the love of god do not overdose on antihistamines especially benadryl because i will second the fact that your hallucinations will be completely indistinguishable from real life scenarios and it will fuck you up in the head in the worst type of way and it is beyond terrifying

This is actually true!
It does usually take a very, very high dose for this to happen, however, and as long as you stay within the suggested limit on the packaging the most that will happen to you is drowsiness (unless you have a negative reaction to it; different people react poorly to different medications, which I’m assuming the commenter above did).
For those unaware, the active ingredient in Benadryl is diphenhydramine, and it’s also contained in OTC sleep medications. If a painkiller is BrandPM, the sleep aid included is probably diphenhydramine! The popular sleep medication Zzzquil is also this, and– fun fact– is actually the same exact dose as Benadryl, just marketed differently and marked up in price.

The active ingredient can also be found in NyQuil, so don’t be like me in college and do a dose of NyQuil, forget 20 minutes later, and take Benadryl.
