tony stark is a person who refused to make weapons and willingly put his company to the way of bankruptcy after seeing what his weapons can do

tony stark is a person who put his costume on pepper and said to her to get out from collapsing building with maya instead of putting the costume on himself and only then trying to save them both. he did that even tho he knew he possibly could die

tony stark is a person who sacrificed his life without any doubts for the people’s life and went into the open space even tho he was realizing that he could possibly die there

tony stark is a person who created not only a villainous robot but also vision who is worthy of fucking thor’s mjolnir

yes, tony stark has his bad sides and yes he made a lot of mistakes which i am not gonna protect. he is not perfect. but he is not a bad man. he is good man who made mistakes, stepped aside from the right way. but he did a lot of good things too. he realizes his own mistakes and he tries to improve himself. so please stop villainizing him. he is just a man

That’s the thing about Tony vs. Steve. Tony IS just a normal guy (well, okay, other than the fact that he’s a genius with a ton of money), he doesn’t have super powers, he just has the things he can build. So I get why he wanted to create something that took the place of the Avengers–so he could get people like himself off the front lines. And yeah, maybe that falls on the selfish side of things, but that’s a bit of a jump, because again, it’s something anyone else with his skill set would probably have tried to do.

And then there’s Steve. Remember that he’s not only a self-sacrificing little shit, he also got everything good in him enhanced with the serum (and everything bad, but we haven’t seen that yet). He was a good man before, but he also didn’t know how to back down from a fight. Steve would probably never take that route because it’s in his nature to sacrifice himself for other people or even other ideals/morals.

Now, Tony might also have a self-sacrificing streak, but he’s also got the extreme desire to come out alive from a fight. We’ve seen him make the sacrifice play in The Avengers, but we’ve also seen the result of that in IM3 and that carried over into AOU. He’ll still make the move BUT ONLY IF HE HAS TO. So, for his character and the development of that character, it makes sense that he would try to build something that would prevent that from ever being necessary again.
